Copperfield Day Care: Your child’s brain anatomy and function

Posted on 02-06-2015

Your child’s brain functions are very different from that of an adult, though the brain physically contains the same parts. While it can be difficult for a parent to understand the intricacies of the human brain, Kids ‘R’ Kids Learning Academy of Copperfield can assist you in understanding your child’s brain anatomy and function. We will focus on helping your child reach peak brain development. Here, we take a closer look at a child’s brain anatomy and functionality.

The cerebrum essentially includes both the left and right hemispheres in your child’s brain, among other structures. These two hemispheres control creativity, imagination and music on the left side and analytical thought, language and math on the right. The cerebrum is the largest section of the brain and overlies most of the rest of the brain.

This area of the brain connects the cerebrum to the spinal cord and is in the back part of the brain. It includes many different parts and controls motor functions and the nervous system. The brain stem area also functions to control breathing and sleeping.

This section of your child’s brain is located at the back of the head. The function of the cerebellum is to control balance, equilibrium and muscle movements. This includes aspects like crawling, walking or standing up.

The Cerebral Cortex

This part of the brain is in the outermost layer of the brain and its functions include processing information from each of the five senses.
